Webinar Recap: Asia-Pacific Risk Outlook 2026 and Beyond

The ASIS International Malaysia Chapter recently hosted a timely webinar in collaboration with Sibylline titled “Asia-Pacific Risk Outlook: Forecasting the Key Security and Economic Risks for the Region in 2026 and Beyond.” The online session, held on 12 March 2026, brought together security and risk professionals from across the region to examine emerging geopolitical and economic developments shaping the Asia-Pacific landscape.

Moderated and hosted by Ryan Chin, the Program Chair of ASIS International Malaysia Chapter, the webinar featured insights from Jonah Kaplan, Principal Analyst for Asia-Pacific at Sibylline, and Aedan Mordecai, who leads the firm’s Asia-Pacific analytical desk. Drawing on their experience monitoring geopolitical, security, and macroeconomic developments across the region, the speakers provided a forward-looking assessment of the key risks that organizations should be watching for through the remainder of 2026 and beyond.

The session centered on several major trends expected to shape the regional risk environment. The first focused on Cross-Strait relations, examining the evolving dynamics between China and Taiwan, Beijing’s broader strategy toward unification, and the domestic political considerations in Taiwan ahead of the 2028 elections. The speakers also explored the implications of Japan’s Taiwan policy and how electoral outcomes in Japan and Thailand may influence regional security and economic dynamics.

Another major theme addressed the fragmentation of the regional economic system, particularly the trajectory of US–China trade relations and the potential impact of tariffs on the business environment across the Asia-Pacific. Participants also heard analysis on the outlook for trade flows and critical supply chains, as well as how recent developments in the Middle East could have ripple effects for the region’s economic and security environment.

Throughout the discussion, the speakers highlighted both the most likely scenarios and the most dangerous contingencies, while outlining early warning indicators that organizations should monitor to better anticipate emerging risks. The session concluded with a lively Q&A segment, where participants engaged the analysts on the practical implications of geopolitical tensions and economic fragmentation for businesses operating in Asia-Pacific.

In this partnership with Sibylline, ASIS International Malaysia Chapter aims to provide its members and the wider security community with timely, strategic insights on global risk developments. Sessions like this provide expert perspectives that help security and business leaders strengthen their preparedness and resilience in an increasingly complex operating environment.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Sibylline and the team, particularly Jonah, Aedan and Bianca, as well as everyone who took the time to attend this session. A copy of the slides and the webinar recording will be made available soon for those who were unable to join the live session.
