In a collaborative effort between the Law Enforcement Program of Innovative University College and ASIS International Malaysia Chapter, a vibrant career talk was held on the morning of July 17th, aimed at enlightening students about the dynamic field of security.
The session was expertly moderated by Nur Fatima Aisya Jamil, a Law Enforcement Lecturer from the university college, who skillfully navigated the discussion between the two esteemed guest panelists: Ryan Chin, Regional Director of Global Corporate Security at Swift, and Vilbert Raj, Executive Director of Black Gold Security Sdn. Bhd. who are members of the ASIS International Malaysia Chapter. We were also honored to have Puan Yahurin Yassin, Innovative University College Registrar and Encik Johari Jamaluddin, Law Enforcement Faculty Director gracing us with their presence at this event.
The event kicked off with a warm welcoming speech by Puan Yahurin, who shared the accomplishments of the Law Enforcement Program and introducing the panelists, setting the tone for an inspiring day ahead. Without further ado, the career talk began with customary introductory questions, gradually delving deeper into the career journeys of Ryan and Vilbert. Both panelists shared compelling narratives about their entry into the security industry, recounting personal challenges they had overcome along the way. From unexpected career shifts to navigating industry complexities, their stories resonated with the aspiring law enforcement students in attendance.
One poignant moment came towards the end of the session when both panelists emphasized the importance of passion in one's career. They candidly shared that despite security often being associated with adversity—whether dealing with crises like fires or shootings—having a genuine passion for helping others can sustain one through even the most challenging moments.
The engagement from the students was also noteworthy, with thought-provoking questions reflecting their keen interest in understanding the intricacies of a career in security. This interaction not only enriched the dialogue but also highlighted the enthusiasm of the next generation of security professionals. Before the event ended, Perumal, the Next Gen Chair of ASIS International Malaysia Chapter had a chance to say a few words to thank Fatima, Innovative University College, and the panelists of the day for the great sharing and partnership.
We hope that this career talk served as a beacon of inspiration and knowledge for all involved. It underscored the multifaceted nature of security careers and reinforced the importance of passion and dedication in pursuing one's professional aspirations. As the event drew to a close, hopefully the students left with not only practical advice but also a renewed sense of purpose in their potential futures within the security industry.
Reflecting on the success of the event, we would like to express our gratitude to Innovative University College for the valuable participation, collaboration and insights, and not forgetting Perumal for leading this initiative to inspire the young students. As we look forward, we anticipate more fruitful collaborations that will continue to bridge the gap between academia and industry, preparing students effectively for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the field of security.
