ASIS Malaysia Technology Day 2026 – Shaping the Future of Security Technology



The security industry is changing rapidly. As organizations become more connected and physical security environments become increasingly complex, technology is no longer simply about cameras, access control or alarms. It is about how these technologies work together, how intelligence is generated from them, and how security teams can use that intelligence to make better and faster decisions.


This was the focus of ASIS Malaysia Technology Day 2026, which brought together security professionals, technology leaders, practitioners and industry partners for an afternoon of knowledge sharing, discussion and networking.



The event explored three key themes shaping the future of physical security: intelligence, interoperability and layered protection.


From Hardware to Intelligence


The event began with the keynote address by Johnny Leong, “From Hardware to Intelligence: How Physical Security Tech Is Transforming Operations.”


Johnny highlighted the evolution of physical security from standalone hardware towards a more integrated intelligence layer. Modern security technologies are increasingly capable of providing organizations with greater situational awareness, helping security teams understand what is happening, respond faster and build greater operational resilience.

The shift is significant. Security systems are no longer simply there to record an incident after it happens. With the right technologies, data and analytics, they can increasingly help organizations identify risks and support proactive decision-making.


AI: From Monitoring to Predictive Protection

The conversation continued with a panel discussion on “AI-Driven Security: From Monitoring to Predictive Protection”, featuring Ir. Ts. Dr. Wong Chee Fui, Sujoy Dutta, Lim Chye Heng and James Jiang.



Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the security profession. Video analytics, anomaly detection, automated threat identification and data-driven decision-making are helping security teams move beyond traditional monitoring and reactive response.

The discussion explored the practical realities of adopting AI in security — including where AI can add value, implementation challenges, governance and the balance between machine intelligence and human expertise.

One important takeaway was that AI should not be viewed simply as a replacement for people. Instead, its greatest value can come from augmenting security teams, helping them process large amounts of information and focus their attention where it matters most.


Interoperability: Breaking Down the Silos

Another strong theme throughout the event was interoperability.

In many organizations, physical security systems have developed independently over time. Access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, visitor management and building management systems may each work well individually, but when these systems operate in isolation, valuable information and opportunities for better response can be lost.


Danny Chung addressed this in his expert session, “The Power of Interoperable Security Technology.” He highlighted how connecting different technologies can create a more integrated security ecosystem and enable organizations to make better use of the data already available to them.


This was followed by a panel discussion, “Breaking Silos: Achieving True Interoperability in Physical Security Systems,” featuring Chris Chan, Kurt Measom, Tengku Zamir and Danny Chung.

The panel explored open architecture, integration strategies and some of the common challenges organizations face when connecting different technologies and platforms.

INTEROPERABILITY!

It may sound like a technical concept, but its impact is very practical: connecting systems, data and workflows can improve situational awareness, streamline operations and ultimately help security teams respond more effectively to incidents.



A Layered Approach to Data Centre Security

As data centres continue to become critical components of the digital economy, protecting these environments requires more than securing the main entrance.

Kurt Measom shared an expert session on “Layered Approach to Advanced Entrance Security in Data Centers.”

The presentation looked at how security can be structured across different layers of a high-security environment — from the perimeter and reception areas through service corridors and ultimately into highly restricted data rooms.

Rather than relying on a single technology or security measure, a layered approach combines different controls to deter, detect and prevent unauthorized access.

Technologies such as multi-factor authentication, biometric verification, anti-tailgating systems, access logging and continuous monitoring can work together to create a stronger security environment around critical infrastructure and the people responsible for operating it.


More Than Technology — It’s About People

While technology was at the heart of the event, one of the most valuable aspects of ASIS Malaysia Technology Day was the opportunity to have open conversations with fellow security professionals.

The networking sessions provided an opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss challenges and share perspectives on how organizations are approaching the rapidly changing security landscape.

These conversations are important because every organization has different risks, operating environments and priorities. There is no single technology or solution that addresses every security challenge.

The best outcomes often come from combining people, processes and technology.

ASIS Malaysia Technology Day 2026 was a great reminder of the value of bringing our industry together — to learn from one another, challenge existing thinking and explore what comes next.
